Team Hughes - Giving Back, Trip to Mesa Police and Fire Departments

The weekend before Thanksgiving,  we were able to do our annual parents versus kids game (kids won) along with some surprise “what are you thankful for” letters to their parents.  This was a great experience for the boys and I was so proud of the boys in not only keeping it a secret from their parents, but for what they came up with.  Afterwards we took the team out to Mesa PD and Fire where the boys loaded them up with enough food to feed both crews for the night easily.  They also all wrote amazing thank you letters to the officers for everything that they do to keep the community safe.  They were able to sit into a briefing during shift change and then got a tour of the facility, PD vehicles and a fire truck.  This was a great experience for the boys and officers/firefighters and I could not be prouder of the boys for the way they represented not only themselves, but also AZSC.  I believe the work that we do off the pitch has as much importance as the work that we do on the it in our players development, and these boys are always excited to know what giveback we’re doing next.  They show up very respectful of the game and our competition each week and it always reminds me of why I got into coaching.
